AMITABHA DEB CHOUDHURY : PROFILE : Amitabha Dev Choudhury (b.1962) reserves a revered resonance with the resplendent readers of contemporary Bengali literature. An English teacher by profession he has already penned two novels. Uponyaser Khonje (2003) and Udas Mahal Shunya Gali (2007) are real value addition to the pool of Bengali fiction. A poet by both trait and training he has enriched the millennium-old tradition of Bengali poetry by the subtle nuances of his sublimity. His rich repertoire of poetic pieces, available in all leading little magazines and major mainstream literary periodicals including Desh, has already registered captive audience across geography. The anthology of his poetry, Amitabha Dev Choudhuryr Kabita (2006), has given a real run for money for the connoisseurs. Of late he has ventured into a completely different genre- the Bengali primer- with his Ha Re Re Re Re Re Re (2008) as a 'tribute to Bengali Alphabet'. As it were not to be pigeonholed in a stereotype he has made successful inroads into English poetry with his Sky Herald.
A familiar face in the poetic milieu he has already made his mark in many a scholarly soiree including Sahitya Akademi hosted poetry reading sessions in Hyderabad back in 2007 and the International Bengali Poetry Festival in Kolkata the same year, to name a few.
A true literary polymath he has some brilliant short stories to his credit as well. Apart from inclusion in a short story collection edited jointly by Ujjwal Kumar Mazumder and Ram Kumar Mukhopadhyay from Mitra and Ghosh, Kolkata (2006) his short takes have long been in circulation. This versatile scribe has contributed scores of essays and articles on wide ranging social and literary issues one of which has been picked by Burdwan University in their collection of essays entitled Desh Bibhag O Bangla Upanyas. Along with his association with electronic media he has not let the print media a slip either. For quite a few years he has been in charge of the literary section of a well circulated Bengali daily from Southern Assam. An alumnus of Jadavpur University he lives in Silchar at present.
